Form 990, Schedule B Changes

Nonprofit organizations filing Form 990 or 990-EZ are required to complete Schedule B, Schedule of Contributors, that provides additional information on the organization’s donors, specifically donors’ names, addresses and donation amounts.  Both forms 990, 990-EZ and their schedules are open to public inspection; however, the donors’ names and addresses reported on Schedule B are not available to the public.

In July 2018, the IRS announced a revenue procedure (Rev. Proc. 2018-38) that changed the requirement for filing Schedule B.  Only organizations described under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code are now required to complete Schedule B with donors' names and addresses and contribution amounts.  Other nonprofits are no longer required to include donors' names and addresses on Schedule B, only contribution amounts; however, they are still required to collect and keep donor information in their records and make it available to the IRS if requested.

The change in reporting is effective for taxable years ending on or after December 31, 2018.  There was no change made to the public disclosure of information on Schedule B.
