Reflections From My First DWD Tax Season – Amanda Cope

A Season of Learning and Growth
As my first tax season as an associate at DWD CPAs & Advisors wraps up, I’ve taken some time to reflect—and I can confidently say that it’s been an incredible learning experience.

Expectations vs. Reality
Going into tax season, I expected long days, fast-paced weeks, and a steep learning curve. And while the hours were certainly long at times, the guidance and encouragement I received from my coworkers made all the difference. From day one, the team at DWD made sure I had the resources, mentorship, and support I needed to succeed. That kind of culture isn’t something you find everywhere—and it’s one of the reasons I’m so grateful to have started my career here.

Embracing Variety in the Work
One of the aspects I enjoyed most was the variety of work. No two tax returns were the same, and I appreciated the opportunity to work on both individual and business filings. Each one presented a new challenge and helped me expand my technical skills. Even during tax season, I still received work from other departments, which allowed me to see how different areas of the firm operate and to gain a broader perspective on public accounting.

Support That Made the Difference
The fast pace actually helped the time fly by, and despite the intensity, I never felt alone or overwhelmed. The collaborative environment at DWD truly stands out. Whether it was a quick question answered by a manager or a teammate checking in to see how things were going, the team always made me feel supported and valued.

Looking Ahead
Looking back, I can confidently say I made the right choice in joining DWD. The firm’s commitment to professional growth, strong culture, and team-oriented atmosphere made my first tax season both manageable and meaningful. I’m excited to continue growing in my role and look forward to what the next year has in store.
